went to montreal last weekend to check out the montreal international game summit. it’s so good to hear really thoughtful and creative people talk about interactivity. there were a lot of other students there, eager as ever
at the hotel there was an enormous tapestry, it was beautiful. the people are about 3 ft. tall (for scale). go see it. it’s in the marriot chateau champlain.

Good Blood - Made in 8 hours using AS3 for our game jam with the theme of “Arcade-style games”
— jump on the heads of little girl ghosts, nibble on them, then steer on to the next without hitting the ground. avoid falling off the edge of the screen —
Tom Astle did the amazing particle effects, Russell Honor did the programming, and I was in charge of design & visuals.
We were happy with what we finished, but it could be improved in a lot of ways: the player’s actions don’t really work that well with the challenge of the game (avoid going off the screen), so there’s a missed opportunity for tension. We could play with the horizontal speed of the ghosts, vs how long it takes the player to release from them. The decision of which ones to grab on would be more interesting if there were faster ones.
We have this play between vertical motion and lateral motion, but there’s not much point to it right now. Maybe the score should increase as height increases? Maybe there is a better solution? Play it and let us know!
